On this episode of The Saharian Show, the amazing Amara and Phenomenal co-host Placid, scanned through the continent of Africa, where the unsavoury and dehumanizing child labour in The Democratic Republic of Congo , caught their attention.
The irony of a country that has the raw material that enriches the richest men on the face of the earth, are sadly living below poverty line, and worse still, these mineral wealth including cobalt, are mined by children, most of whom are below the ages of 15, under severely precarious working condition and being paid as little as less than 5 dollar. The harsh reality of child labour stares Africa in the face.
Tesla, Microsoft, etc, have denied any iota of knowledge of the means by which these 
minerals are sourced from DRC; they pay for products and won’t be saddled with the responsibility of who and who does not work in the mines; sense or nonsense?
Now fatalities have been reported, the few lucky children that didn’t loose their lives, were only lucky enough to be alive but with permanent disabilities; fractured waists, legs, arms, and I dare add, distorted sense of being, varying ramifications of trauma.
The question begging for answer is; who are the conduits? Are these middle men exchanging cheap labour for greedy profits, humans or Sub humans? Are they Africans? How much were they paid to numb their conscience? Will Africa be permanently under the bondage of soft power? And her leaders willing victims of neocolonialism?
